What's the most interesting about this text here, in stormy times, how do you act in faith?

우리 눈여겨봐야 할 점은 이 폭풍속에서 주님이 우릴 부르실때  '과연 우리가 어떻게 믿음으로 반응할 수 있느냐' 입니다.

How can you have the fearless ability to look at the storm and not be so scared.

'어떻게 우리가 두려움없이 폭풍속에서 그 분을 바라볼수 있느냐' 입니다.

It's interesting that when they say ‘Master, Master, we're going to drown.’ Jesus says ‘Where is your faith?’

재미있는것은 제자들이 '주님, 주님 저희 배가 가라앉고 있습니다'라고 했을때 주님은 '네 믿음이 어디에 있느냐?'라고 말씀하셨다는 겁니다.

 And it is very clear that faith is the opposite of that panic. So how do we get that faith so we're able to not panic in the face of Storms? And let's just notice two or three things here.

분명한 것은 '믿음'은 '패닉'과는 정반대라는 것이구요. 그러면 어떻게 해야 우리가 그런 폭풍을 만나서도 패닉에 빠지지 않는 '믿음'을 얻을 수 있을까요? 오늘 그것에 대해 2~3가지 이야기를 해보겠습니다.

First of all, when Jesus says where is your faith that shows that faith is probably not what most of us think it is. It's a deliberate action.

먼저 주님이 '네 믿음이 어디있느냐?'라고 물으셨을때, 그때의 '믿음'은 아마도 우리 대부분이 생각하는 그 '믿음'이  아닐겁니다. 그것은 의도적인 행동입니다. 

Notice Jesus does not say when he says where is your faith, he does not say you don't have any faith or why don't you have any faith. Notice. That's very interesting

이걸 아셔야합니다. 예수님이 '네 믿음이 어디 있느냐'라고 물으셨을때, 그 분은 '넌 믿음이 없다' 거나 '왜 믿음이 전혀 없느냐'고 하시지 않으셨어요. 굉장히 중요한 부분입니다.

because they were showing a lack of faith at the moment but He doesn't say oh you lack faith. He doesn't do that.

왜냐하면 그 순간에 제자들이 믿음의 부족을 보이긴 했지만 그럼에도 주님은 '오 너네 믿음이 부족해'라고 하지 않으셨단 겁니다. 그렇지 않으셨어요.

We mostly think that faith is sort of automatic, it's like a, it is like a heater that if it’s cold enough outside, the heater just comes on.

우리 대부분은 믿음을 무슨 자동머신처럼 생각합니다. 마치 히터 처럼요. 밖이 추워지면 자동으로 작동되는 히터처럼 말이에요.

And most of us think that if we have faith and panic, I mean storms come up, it'll just come on.

그리고 우리는 또 이렇게 생각합니다. '만약 우리에게 믿음이 있다면 폭풍같은 패닉속에서 자동적으로 나올거라고' 말이죠.

And if it doesn't just come on, then I guess we just don't have faith. I have people say to me all the time. They say

만약 믿음이 생기지 않으면 .. 우린 믿음이 없어서 그런다고 생각하죠. 제 주변에 그렇게 말하는 사람들이 항상 있습니다. 그들은 이렇게 말해요..

 ‘Oh, I wish I had your faith, I wish I had that person's faith.’ as if it's something that you catch or it's something that's just in you.

'오 내가 너처럼 믿음이 있었다면, 내가 그 사람만큼 믿음이 있었다면' 이렇게 마치 너에게 내게 없는 믿음이 있거나 넌 타고났다고 말한다는 겁니다.

But this says, ‘No’ It doesn't say you don't have faith. He says ‘Where is your faith? Get it out. It ought to be here. And which means it takes deliberate action. Number one.

하지만 그렇지 않습니다. 당신은 믿음이 없는게 아니에요. 주님은 '네 믿음이 어디 있느냐'고 말했습니다. 믿음을 꺼내세요. 당신은 분명히 믿음이 있습니다. 그 믿음은 행동하는 믿음입니다. 이게 첫번째입니다.

Number two. It's faith, not in general, but about Jesus because you see they come to Him and they say ‘Who is this?’ at the end.

두번째 입니다. 그 믿음은 바로 예수님에 대한 믿음을 가르킵니다. 제자들은 예수님께 가고 있었습니다. 그리고 이렇게 말합니다. '누구시지?'

Who is this and that's really what they should have been saying all along. See, when Jesus says where is your faith, I think He was trying to say

'누구시지?'라는 이 질문은 제자들이 진즉에 했어야했던 질문입니다. 봅시다. 제 생각에는.. 예수님이 '네 믿음이 어디있느냐?'라고 말한 이유는..

 ‘You're looking at the storm instead of looking at me’ and ‘You know who I am, you’ve seen me feed the hungry, the 5,000 to 4000, you’ve seen me raise the dead,

'너네 폭풍 좀 그만보고 나에게 집중해라'. '너네 아직도 날 모르겠니, 그렇게 내가 오천명 먹이는걸 보고도.. 내가 죽은자를 살리는 걸 보고도..

you’ve seen me pledge my love to you, you’ve seen me do all these things, but you just forgotten all them and you panicked.

'내가 너희 사랑한다고한 그 맹세를 보고도.. 이 모든것들을 보고도.. 그러고도 이 모든걸 잊고.. 이렇게 그냥 폭풍 때문에 패닉에 빠지다니....'

What you should have done is you should have said in a way that we know this about, Jesus that about Jesus if he's all this, there's he's not going to get we're not going to drown here

제자들이 그 상황에서 말해야 했던건 말입니다.. '이게 만약 '주님'이시라면.. 그렇다면 그 분은 우리가 물에 빠져죽게 하시지 않을거란' 고백입니다.

and so Jesus is saying what you're really doing when you panic it's not so much showing a lack of faith.

그렇게 예수님이 말씀하신 겁니다. '그런 패닉 속에서 네가 할 일은 바로 네 믿음을 보여주는 것이야'라고 말입니다.   

You're refusing to exercise the faith that you've got. You’re refusing to get out what you know about Jesus Christ. I mean let me ask you a question.

여러분은 지금 여러분에게 있는 그 믿음이 작동하는것을 거부하고 있어요. 지금 여러분이 아는 예수님에 대해 말하기를 거부하고 있단 말입니다. 제 말은.. 이렇게 한번 질문해보죠.

Do you believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God incarnate born in the manger? Do you believe He was He died on a tree to atone for our sins that He rose physically from the dead

여러분은 예수님이 하나님의 아들이고 성육신되어 이 땅의 말구유에 태어난 것을 믿습니까? 그 분이 우리 죄를 사하기 위해 십자가에 못박혀 죽으시고, 부활하신 것을 믿습니까?

that He's passed through the heavens and now He’s seated at the right hand of the Father and He's directing all things that happen in history and someday He will come back to judge the living and the dead and put everything right?

그리고 하늘로 올라가셔서 지금 아버지 우편에 앉아, 모든 역사를 주관하시고, 언젠가 산자와 죽은자의 심판을 위해 이땅에 오셔서 모든 것을 이루실 것을 믿으시냐는 말입니다.

Do you believe that? Then you can face anything. There is no storm here on Earth. That can stand before those facts. So where is your face? Get it out.

그걸 믿으십니까? 믿으신다면 여러분은 어떤 어려움도 견딜수 있는겁니다. 이 땅에 폭풍따위는 존재하지 않는거에요. 그 믿음이 이겨내게 합니다. 자, 여러분의 믿음, 지금 어디에 있습니까? 믿음을 꺼내십시요.

But there is one more thing I believe. We're not supposed to just see faith as a deliberate action and just get out what we know about Jesus.

그리고 여기 제가 믿는게 한 가지 더 있는데요. 그것은 바로 우리가 믿음을 단순히 '어떤행동'으로만 보아서도 안되고, '예수님에 대해 아는것'으로만 봐서는도 안된다는 것입니다.  

 But we especially have to remember His love for us because not in Luke 6, ah Luke 8, but over in Mark chapter 4.

우리는 특히 예수님의 사랑을 기억해야 한다는 것입니다. 이것은 눅 8장 뿐만 아니라 막4장에도 나와 있는데요..

 I, we’re told that the disciples also said ‘Master, don't You care that we're going to drown, you don't love us’

제자들이 이렇게 말합니다.'주님, 우리가 이렇게 물에 빠져 죽는것을 돌아보지 않으시려고 합니까, 우리를 사랑하지 않으십니까?' 라고요.

And of course they didn't know yet but we know and that is that on the cross, Jesus Christ experienced the greatest storm,  possible the storm of God's Wrath, the storm of divine Justice coming down

물론 제자들은 그땐 몰랐겠지만.. 지금의 우리는 알죠. 예수님이 십자가에서 달리실것과 하나님의 진노와 공의의 폭풍을 경헐하실 예수님을 말이에요..

and because He loved us, He just obediently bowed His head into that storm and took it for us.

그리고 그것은 그가 우리를 사랑하기 때문이었죠. 예수님은 우리를 위해 순종하여 그 폭풍우를 받아들이신 겁니다.

And if I see Him, loving me that much has to Bow His head into that storm than any other storm that comes along and I will never say ‘Oh, Lord, do You not care?’ I know He cares. So get out your faith. It ought to be here. Remind yourself of not only who Jesus is, but what He did for you.

그리고 제가 만약 그 분을 본다면.. 예수님께서 그 십자가의 폭풍에 들어갈 정도로 날 사랑하셨다면..  저는 어떤 폭풍이 제게 온다 하더라도 '주님, 절 사랑하십니까?'라는 말은 안할것입니다. 그 분이 절 사랑하는 걸 알기 때문이죠. 자, 이제 여러분의 믿음을 꺼내십시요. 믿음을 이렇게 사용해 보십시요. 예수님이 어떤 분이셨고, 또 우릴 위해 하신일을 기억하는데 말입니다.
