솔직히 까놓고 말해서, 저는 기후변화 문제가 심각하고 믿습니다. 하지만 세상이 12년만에 끝나는건 아니잖아요. 그래서 전 그 신녹색협약이 말도 안되는 이야기라는걸 압니다. 하지만 만약 자유사장의 자본주의가 그렇게 위대하다면, 과연 이 기후변화문제에 대해서 어떤 해결책을 내놓을수 있을까요? 왜냐하면..

So we obviously, we're Americans, we love competition and I think that if the government, if you ever want to talk about solutions that we could be implementing, it's inspiring are young entrepreneurs to compete to come up with ways to solve.

‘엘론 머스크(테슬라&스페이스X의 대표)’입니다. 엘론 머스크라구요. 해결책에 대해 논하고 싶으신가요? 우리 미국인들은 분명히, 우리는 경쟁을 좋아합니다. 그리고 제 생각엔 만약 정부나 만약 당신이 그 기후문제에 대한 해결책을 찾고 싶다면, 젊은 기업가들의 경쟁을 통해 만들어지는 해결책이 영감을 줄 수 있다고 생각합니다.

Plastic bottles in the ocean, Right? How do we get rid of that? We’ll get a bunch of young Elon Musk’s. Elon Musk is.. How old is he? Up 40?  Probably he’s middle of 30’s. But getting a bunch of young entrepreneurs or college kids to compete to figure out.

바다에 떠다니는 ‘플라스틱 병’들이 문제인거잖아요? 그쵸? 그걸 어떻게 해야 없앨 수 있을까요? 바로 수많은 엘론 머스크같은 젊은 기업가들을 통해 없앨 수 있다는 겁니다. 그가 몇살이죠? 40이 넘었나요? 아마 그는 30대 중반일겁니다. 아무튼 수많은 젊은 기업가들 혹은 대학의 인재들의 경쟁을 통해서 해결할 수 있다는 겁니다. 

Of course, they can figure something out. We can get a man on the moon. You don’t think we could figure out how to deal with some of these issues like plastic bottles in the ocean which is something that just bothers me?

당연히 그들이 할 수 있을겁니다. 우리는 사람을 달에도 보냈어요. 그런데 바다에 떠다니는 플라스틱 병 같은 문제를 우리가 해결하지 못할거라고 생각하세요?

I'm not for banning straws for sale. But some of these bigger issues on that. I think everyone be affected by and you won't find an argument on the right on this. Conservatives aren't like yes more plastic bottles in the ocean. Right?

저는 ‘플라스틱 빨대 팔지 못하게하는’ 그런 정책엔 찬성하지 않아요. 하지만 몇가지 이슈들은 이런거보다는 크지만. 사실 모든 사람들이 이런것에 영향을 받습니다. 하지만 그래도 보수파가 주장하는 것에 반박은 못할거라 봅니다. '바다에 플라스틱 던지자'라고 하지 않는다면 말이죠.    

But we’re against really is the idea that you’re gonna arbitrarily tax us. And put together some agreement like the Paris Accord Agreement which is fundamentally absolutely nothing. And somehow we’ve got to pay for it. But if we did something that was inspiring like an encouraging people to compete to come up with new ideas. Everyone would be on board tomorrow.

우리가 반대하는 것은 자꾸 임의적으로 세금을 올리려는 정책입니다. 파리기후협약 같이 결국 아무 결과도 없이, 그저 동의하고 세금올리는 그런것들 말이에요. 그리고 그것에 대해 우리는 대가를 지불해야합니다. 하지만 만약 우리가 사람들이 어떤 기발한 아이디어를 만들수 있도록 격려하고 경쟁시킬수 있다면, 모두들 당장 내일이라도 참여할 거라 생각합니다.
