Can I ask you about foreign policy, Mr. President? Overnight we learned that North Korea tested two ballistic missiles. What if any actions will you take and what is your red line on North Korea?

외교정책에 대해서 질문해도 될까요, 대통령님? 지난 밤, 북한이 탄도미사일 2발을 테스트했다는 것을 우리는 알았습니다. 어떤 조치를 취하실 것이며, 북한에 대한 당신의 ‘레드라인’은 무엇입니까?

 

Let me say that, number one, UN resolution 1718 was violated by those particular missiles that were tested, number one. We’re consoling with our allies and partners, and.. There will be responses if they choose to escalate. We will respond accordingly but I’m also prepared for some form of diplomacy, but it has to be conditioned upon the end result of denuclearization. So.. that’s what we’re doing right now, consoling with our allies.

말하자면, 첫째, 그러한 미사일이 테스트가 된 것은 UN 결의안 1718호를 위반한 것이고요. 그게 첫번째고요. 우리는 우리의 동맹국들, 파트너들과 논의를 하고 있고요. 그리고..... 만약 그들이 도발을 선택한다면, 대응을 할 것이고요. 우리는 그들에 따라 대응을 하겠지만, 저는 또한 어떤 형태의 외교적 방법으로 대응할 준비가 되어있습니다. 하지만 그것은 비핵화의 최종결정이라는 조건에 맞아야 하는거고요. 그래서… 그게 지금 당장 우리가 동맹국들과 협의를 하고 있는 겁니다.

Diplomacy. Can you define what you mean and former president Obama warned the incoming President Trump that North Korea was "the" top foreign policy issue, that he was washing. Is that how you assess the crisis in North Korea?
