It’s personal choice. I won’t be wearing a mask and I can’t speak for my colleagues.

And why won’t you wear a mask? Cause it’s sort of a personal political statement? Is it because the president would be disappointed in you if you don’t wear a mask?

It’s a personal decision. I’m tested regularly. I feel that it’s safe for me not to be wearing a mask and I’m in compliance with CDC guidelines which are recommended but not required.

If I could ask you about last night the president tweeted out some fake videos. One of which was labeled manipulated media by Twitter. Why is the president sharing fake videos on Twitter about two toddlers who are obviously showing a lot of love for one another. It seems as though he’s exploiting children to make some sort of crass political point. Why is he sharing fake videos?

어젯밤 트럼프 대통령이 트윗으로 올린 ‘가짜 비디오’에 대해 질문해도 될까요? 그 비디오는 ‘트위터’에 의해 조작된 영상이라고 마크 된 건데요. 왜 대통령이 그런 ‘가짜 비디오’를 트윗으로 공유한 겁니까? 그 2명의 걸음마 아이들이 서로를 사랑하는 모습을 보이는 그런 장면을 말입니다. 대통령이 정치적인 포인트를 만들기 위해 아이들을 착취하고 있는 것 같은데요. 대통령이 왜 가짜 비디오를 공유했나요?

 

He was making a point about CNN specifically. He was making a point that CNN has regularly taken him out of context that in 2019 CNN misleadingly aired a clip from one viewpoint repeatedly to falsely accuse the Covington boys of being quote students in Maga gear harassing a Native American elder. That’s a harassing video, a misleading video about children. It had really great consequences for their future.

대통령은 구체적으로 CNN을 지적하고 있는 겁니다. 그는 2019년 CNN이 Covington청소년들이 미국 원주민 장로를 괴롭히는 장면을 어느 한 관점에서만, 동영상을 반복적으로 잘못 방송한 것을 지적하고 싶은 겁니다. 그 비디오는 아이들에 대해 오해를 만들게 할 수 있는 잘못된 영상입니다. 그 영상은 청소년들의 미래에 큰 영향을 가져올 그런 비디오입니다. 

 

So you’re saying it’s okay to exploit two toddlers hugging one another on a sidewalk to make some sort of political point? You mean, as you know the president has described the members of the press as fake news during the course of this administration when you share fake videos like that. Doesn’t that make you fake news?

그러니까 길거리에서 서로 껴안고 있는 두 명의 유아들을 착취해서 일종의 정치적 주장을 펴도 괜찮다는 말씀이십니까? 당신도 잘 알겠지만, 대통령이 그런 '가짜 동영상'을 공유하는 언론이 바로 ‘가짜뉴스’라고 말하지 않았습니까. 그럼 대통령 스스로가 지금 '가짜뉴스'가 된 것 아닙니까?

 

I think the president was making a satirical point that was quite funny if you go and actually watch the video. I think he was making a satir.. the point is.. it was a play on CNN repeatedly taking the president out of context like the time when you guys had a chiron that read Trump slammed some illegal immigrants. They’re animals. Well, guess what? The people we called animals were ms-13 illegal immigrants who regularly mutilate people in this country. Those things are entirely misleadding…

제 생각에는 대통령은 재미있는 풍자적인 포인트를 만들려고 한 것 같네요. 한번 직접 그 영상을 보시면.. 제 생각에는 그가 풍자적인.. 중요한 것은.. 맥락없이 대통령을 끌어다가 반복적으로 가짜뉴스를 만든 건 당신들 CNN 입니다. 트럼프 대통령이 불법이민자 문제를 해결하려고 할 때 말입니다. 트럼프 대통령이 ‘그들은 동물들이다’라고 말한 그 사람들은 정기적으로 우리나라의 사람들을 죽이는 MS-13 불법이민자들 입니다. 이러한 모든 것들이 완전히 잘못된 보도되어..

That’s absurd fantasy.. that’s an absurd attempt to justify the misleading headlines that are regularly on your network like I was just walking in watching CNN as they lauded the quote rallies in the streets. You gotta let me finish Jim. This isn’t a cable news segment. I’m answering your question right now from the White House podium.

정말 터무니없는 환상이군요. 그건 정말 CNN이 정기적으로 만들어내는 ‘잘못된 헤드라인’을 정당화하려는 터무니없는 시도입니다. 짐, 내가 말을 끝까지 하게 해주세요. 지금 이건 케이블 뉴스코너가 아닙니다. 저는 지금 백악관 단상에서 당신의 질문에 대해 대답하고 있는 겁니다.   

 

When I walk out of here, when I leave, when I walk out here.. Jim. When I walk out here, Jim and I see on your.. when I see on your network celebratory headlines about the rallies in the protest outside. You actually said protests and rallies.

내가 여기서 나가보니.. 나가서.. 여길 나가보니.. 짐, 당신네 CNN네트워크가 만들어내는 시위를 찬양하는 ‘헤드라인’을 보면, 당신은 ‘시위와 유세’에 대해 말했었죠.

 

So in light of protest, if these gatherings happen in light of a protest or a rally as you say. That rally is to be condoned but not the president’s rally. I mean it’s appalling you have one person on your network saying that this is a celebration in the streets a carnival-like atmosphere.

그래서 시위라면.. 당신이 말한대로 이 모임이 그 시위라면 해도 되는 것이고, 대통령의 유세면 안된다는거잖아요. 제가 소름끼친건, 당신네 CNN네트워크중에 한 사람이 ‘이게 바로 카니발같은 길거리의 축제입니다’ 라고 보도한겁니다.

 

There’s a guy with a sign that says free hugs. It’s beautiful what’s happening in the streets. There’s music. people are hugging. You celebrate hugging in the context of a protest but in a Trump rally where we celebrate historic low african-american unemployment, criminal justice reform, HBCUs. That rallies not allowed because… Guess what, Jim. It doesn’t fit the ideological agenda of CNN.

시위현장을 보면 ‘프리허그’사인을 든 남자가 있어요. 길거리에서 일어나는 일들을 보면 아주 아름답죠. 그 음악이며.. 사람들의 허그하는걸 보면 말이죠. 당신은 그 시위라는 배경에서 ‘허그 장면’은 축하하면서, 트럼프 대토령 유세장에서의 ‘역사적으로 낮은 흑인의 실업률, 범죄사법개혁, 흑인대학교육정책’들의 성공에 대한 축하들은 안된다는 거잖아요. 이 대통령의 집회는 왜 안된다는겁니까..내가 한번 맞춰볼까요, 짐? 바로 CNN이 추구하는 이념적 아젠다에 맞지 않기 때문이겠죠.
