목사님, 기도 한 번 부탁드려도 되겠습니까?

I’d love to have that because you are so highly thought of in the area. So, please, James, Sharon. Please.

저는 목사님이 이  지역을 생각하시는 마음이 크다고 들었습니다. 그래서 정말 기도를 받고 싶네요. 그래서 부탁드립니다. 제임스 목사님, 샤론 목사님, 부탁드립니다.

Father, we come to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we thank you for this time that you’ve divinely ordained.

아버지, 지금 우리 구주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 당신께 나아갑니다. 이 시간에 저희와 함께 해주심에 감사를 드립니다

Father, we ask you to forgive us all when we’ve strayed from your ways and where we’ve not acknowledged your word. We ask that you would continue to cause this nation to be one nation, under God, that you alone are the one who can make us individual — indivisible. And by being indivisible, there will be liberty and justice for all.

아버지, 저희가 아버지의 인도를 벗어나 당신의 말씀대로 살지 않았습니다. 저희를 용서하여 주시옵소서. 아버지께서 우리 민족을 하나님 아래에 하나의 민족으로 만들어 주시옵소서. 오직 당신만이 우리 개인들을 뭉치게 만들수 있는 분이십니다. 우리가 하나가 될 때, 모두를 위한 자유와 정의가 있을 것입니다. 

We simply pray that you would bring our nation back to you, that your word will be dominant, that you would cause us to walk in love, to live in love, restore empathy and compassion, kindness, concern for each other.

우리나라를 당신께 다시 올려드리는 기도를 드립니다. 당신의 말씀으로 이 나라를 다스려 주시옵소서. 저희가 사랑을 행하며 살게 하시고, 저희에게 동정심과 헤아리는 마음 그리고 친절과 서로를 아끼는 마음을 회복시켜 주시옵소서.

Lord, I pray for our President, as your word says that you would strengthen him and continue to give him the wisdom and the heart to lead during this time, as well as all of the leaders that are here. We give ourselves to you, and we ask you for your good hand to be upon us. In the name of Jesus, our Lord, we pray. Amen.

주님, 우리 대통령을 위해 기도합니다. 아버지의 말씀으로 대통령을 강하게 하시고 그에게 계속해서 지혜를 부어주시고, 이 어려운 시대를 이끌수 있는 마음을 주시옵소서. 여기에 있는 모든 지도자들에게도 함께 하시옵소서. 저희가 저희 자신을 아버지께 드립니다. 아버지의 손을 저희들 위에 얹어 주시옵소서. 우리 구주 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

정말 감사드립니다. 샤론 목사님께서도, 한 말씀 해주시겠습니까?

I would. I think I’m here, first of all, representing intercessors and people that are praying. Just really, I think we need to mobilize people of prayer to pray for this country.

네, 말씀드리겠습니다. 저는 지금 이 곳에 중보기도자들과 기도하는 사람들을 대표하여 온 것입니다. 정말로 저는 이 나라를 위해 기도하는 기도자들을 모집해야 한다고 생각합니다.

And also, I think it’s important to have black people at the table to help, you know, solve the problem. And also, I think James and I, our prayer is that we’re able to work to really bring about a change. I think there’s a lot of great change that’s been mentioned here of how law enforcement has quickly solved the problem of the crime in the street, but I think there’s.. I think this is a good opportunity for us to really solve the problem in the nation. And I think James and I could help with that.

또한 흑인들이 문제를 해결하도록 돕는 것이 중요하다고 생각합니다. 그리고 제임스 목사와 저는, 우리에게 진정한 변화가 일어나기를 위해 기도하고 있습니다. 저는 (당신의)법 집행으로 인해, 이 거리의 범죄 문제가 얼마나 빠르게 해결되었는지를 알고 있으며, 그것이 큰 변화라고 생각합니다. 한편으로 이것이 우리가 진정으로 우리 국가의 문제를 해결할 수 있는 좋은 기회라고 생각합니다. 그리고 제임스 목사님과 저는 그것을 위해 도움을 드릴 수 있다고 봅니다.

And, Mr. President, if I may add, being the only pastors in the room, if I could maybe just share a little bit from a different perspective that I think would bring balance.

대통령님, 덧붙여 말씀드리면.. 지금 이 방의 유일한 목사로서, 균형적인 시각을 위해 제가 조금 다른 관점의 이야기를 드려도 되겠습니까?

I have a great friend, who is Chief Tony Scarpelli, the chief of police in the town where our church is.

저에게는 토니 스카펠리 라는 경찰 친구가 있습니다. 우리 교회가 위치한 마을의 경찰서장이죠.

And I talk about the partnership between pastors and police, and I often tell Tony that if we can do our job well, it will make his job easier. That’s because there are three types of law that govern a society. There’s spiritual law, moral law, and civil law. Most of the conversation here today has been about civil law, but until we can really focus on spiritual and moral law and change the hearts of people.

We’ll have to continue to build bigger jails and bigger prisons until we can bring our nation back to the place of spiritual and moral law. We certainly want to honor Julia Jackson. We’re her pastors. We’re not the pastor of the entire family, but we want her —

Yes, sir. I will give her your regards. And we certainly pray for Jacob’s continued healing, and we pray for peace. But I just want to offer to you, Mr. President, that Jesus himself says, “Blessed are the peacemakers.” And we want to help be of service to you and to our nation of having these conversations of how do we rebuild the foundations of spirituality and morality which gives us the context of love. If you give a righteous, good, moral man the launch codes to our nuclear arsenal, everyone will be safe because he’s a good man. But if you give a malicious man who is immoral an ink pen, you have to fear for your life.

네, 대통령님. 당신의 안부를 그 분께 전해드리겠습니다. 그리고 우리는 진심으로 제이콥의 회복을 위해 기도하고, 평화를 위해 기도합니다. 그리고 대통령님께 제안을 드리는 것은.. 예수님도 스스로 말씀하셨습니다, “평화를 만드는 자는 복을 받은 자다”라고 말이죠. 우리는 당신과 우리 나라에 도움이 되기를 원합니다. 이러한 대화를 통해, 어떻게 하면 우리가 사랑을 전할 수 있는 영적인 도덕적인 기초를 다시 세울수 있을까에 대해서 말입니다. 만약 당신이 의롭고 선하며 도덕적인 사람에게 핵무기 발사코드를 준다면, 모든 사람들은 안전할 것입니다. 그 사람은 선하니까요.. 하지만 만약 당신이 부도덕한 악한 사람에게 그 권리를 준다면, 우리는 두렴에 떨며 살아야 하겠죠.

I would just want to say that we’re here to be of service to you and to our country, to bring unity. We believe that we can help to listen with empathy and compassion to the real pain that hurts black Americans. But we want to be of service to you and to our nation to do whatever we can to bring true healing, true peace, and to really see God’s very best in our nation. We’re here, available.. we’re available anytime you will call upon us.

제가 여기에 온 이유는 우리 미국과 당신을 위해, 연합을 가져오기 위해서였다는 것을 말씀드리고 싶습니다. 우리는 흑인들을 정말 아프게 하는 고통에 대해 공감하고 연민을 느끼며 귀 기울일 수 있도록 도울 수 있다고 믿습니다. 그리고 우리는 진정한 치유와 평화를 가져오기 위해 우리가 할 수 있는 모든 것을 동원해서 당신과 우리나라를 위해 봉사하길 원합니다. 그리고 정말 하나님의 가장 좋은 것이 미국에서 일어나는 것을 보기 위해서 말이죠. 저희는 여기에 있겠습니다. 당신이 우리를 부르신다면 우리는 언제든 여기서 기다릴 것입니다.
