Also, I want to address what is quite clearly fake news. The story in The Atlantic has been categorically debunked by eyewitnesses and contemporaneous documents. The Atlantic claims, quote, “When President Trump canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American cemetery near Paris in 2018, he blamed rain for the last minute decision,” according to The Atlantic, “saying the helicopter couldn’t fly and that Secret Service wouldn’t drive him there. Neither claim was true,” says The Atlantic.

또한 저는 ‘명백한 가짜뉴스’에 대해서 이야기하려고 합니다. 애틀랜틱지의 보도는 목격자들과 당시 문서들로 인해 명백히 잘못된 보도인 것으로 밝혀졌습니다. 애틀랜틱지는, “트럼프 대통령이 2018년 파리 근교 에인-마른 미군 묘지 방문을 막판에 최소한 것이, 비 때문이었다”라고 보도했는데요,  이어서, “헬기가 뜨지 못하고, 경호국이 대통령을 차로 그곳에 데려가지 못할 것이다 라는 것이 모두 거짓이었다”고 애틀랜틱지는 보도했습니다.  

That has been debunked. Behind me you will see a email from one of the President’s military aides that clearly reads. “We are a bad weather call for today’s lift.” The Atlantic reporting is based on four cowardly anonymous sources who probably do not even exist. Meanwhile, within hours, 10 sources, 10, went on the record debunking these lies, eight with firsthand knowledge, stating on the record one common truth: That this story is false. It never happened.

그들의 보도는 모두 거짓으로 드러났습니다. 제 뒤의 화면을 보시면, 당시 대통령의 군사 보좌관이 보낸 이메일을 보실 수 있는데요. 보시면 '기상악화로 오늘 움직이기는 힘들다'라는 것을 확인할 수 있습니다.  애틀랜틱지 보도는 4명의 익명의 겁쟁이 제보자들에 의한 것이라는데요, 아마 그들이 실제로 존재하지 않을지도 모르겠네요. 한편 몇 시간만에, 10명의 제보자들이 이 보도가 완전 거짓이라고 폭로했는데.. 그 중 이 일에 직접 관련된 8명은 이 보도에 대해 동일한 진실을 말했습니다. ‘이 보도는 가짜뉴스다. 이런 일은 일어난적없다’라고 말이죠.

Adding to the eight that were previously counted, I’m bringing you two new ones. One is from Derek Lyons, staff secretary and counselor to the President, who says this. “I was with the President the morning after the scheduled visit. He was extremely disappointed that arrangements could not be made to get him to the site, and that the trip had been canceled. I have worked for the President for his entire administration. One of my responsibilities is working with him on the many letters he signs to the families of our nation’s fallen heroes. In all my time at the White House,” Derek writes, ” I have never heard him utter a disparaging remark of any kind about our troops. In my view, he holds the brave men and women of our armed forces in the highest regard.”

I also bring to you today another quote from a former member of this administration, Dan Walsh, deputy chief of staff, former deputy chief of staff, who is also a retired military officer. I got off the phone with Dan just before coming out here, and he wanted me to share with you all, “I can attest to the fact that there was a bad weather call in France, and that the helicopters were unable to safely make the flight. Overall, the President’s support and respect for our American troops past and present is unquestionable.” And Dan recounted to me several events he went on with the President, like a [World War II veteran who flew with the President on the helicopter], and [Normandy visits the President had with our wounded warriors], [special ops teams who came to the Oval Office, including the team that got al-Baghdadi, and they brought along Conan the dog as well]. He met with families at the Army-Navy game. He does this routinely. At the World Series, when he got an opportunity to go watch the Nationals, he brought veterans with him.

And I can tell you from what I’ve seen for from this President, I have heard him describe his visits to Walter Reed in detail, and the angst he has had, and the compassion he has had, and the hurt he has had viewing these warriors who have been absolutely injured in the line of duty, and are courageous heroes. And I’ve heard him recount how meaningful those visits are. I’ve also seen him, just a day before this article came up, talk about there was rain and lightening popping around, and he said, “I want to go out there, and I want to talk to our World War II veterans.” This is America’s greatest generation, and the President holds them in the highest of regards.

그리고 저는 여러분들에게 제가 경험한 트럼프 대통령에 대해 이야기할 수 있습니다. 저는 대통령이 월터 리드(군 병원)을 방문했을 때의 이야기를 자세히 들은 적이 있습니다. 그 곳에서 그가 느낀 안타까움, 연민의 감정들, 그리고 임무수행중에 부상당한 이 전사들을 보며, 그들이 겪었던 상처를 용기 있는 영웅으로.. 그가 묘사하는 것을 들었습니다. 그리고 저는 그가 그러한 방문을 얼마나 의미 있게 생각하는지 말하는 것을 들었습니다. 또한 저는 이 가짜뉴스가 나오기 하루전에, 그가 ‘그 때 비가 오고 천둥이 치고 있었지’라고 말하며, “나는 그 곳에 가고 싶었어 그리고 세계2차대전의 전역자들과 이야기하고 싶었어”라고 말하는 것을 보았습니다. 이 분들은 미국의 가장 위대한 세대입니다. 그리고 우리 대통령은 그 분들을 가장 높이 평가하고 계십니다.  

So why would a publication abandon all journalistic integrity and publish this story? It’s because the liberal activists at The Atlantic are uninterested in the truth, and they are only interested in pedaling conspiracy laden propaganda, because here is the one truth. No one, and I mean no one, loves and cares for our service men and women as much as President Donald J. Trump. Thank you.

자, 그러면 왜 그 언론은 모든 언론으로서의 정직성을 내팽개치고 이 가짜 이야기를 출판했을까요? 그것은 바로 애틀랜틱지의 진보 활동가들은 진실에는 전혀 관심이 없기 때문이며, 그들은 오직 음모로 과장된 선동에만 관심이 있기 때문입니다. 진실은 바로 여기 있습니다.. 아무도, 그 누구도 도널드 트럼프 대통령만큼, 봉사하는 우리 국민들에게 사랑하고 보살피는 사람은 없습니다. 감사합니다.
