한미정상회담, 바이든은 뭐라고 말했나? (영어원문)

한미정상회담이 열리고 기자회견이 있었습니다. 다음은 바이든 대통령의 연설 영어원문입니다.

I am honored to have President Moon here at the White House today for the second foreign leader visit, head-of-state visit in my presidency.

 

The United States and the Republic of Korea are allies with a long history of shared sacrifice.  And in a personal note, I want to thank the President for being with me today as I had the great honor of presenting the Congressional Medal of Honor to a Ranger in his mid-90s who was — showed incredible acts of valor and bravery in Korea during the Korean War.  The President was kind enough to come spend the entire time there and personally congratulate our honoree. 

 

And I also want to point out that our history of shared sacrifice and our cooperation is vital to maintaining peace and stability in a critical region of the world.  President Moon and I and our teams have had good meetings addressing our shared agenda.  We had a private meeting in which my staff kept coming out and saying, “You’re over time.  You’re over time.”  But I enjoyed our meeting so much that we caused us to move everything back. 

 

But I look forward to continuing our discussion today here and in growing the U.S.-ROK relationship further as we take on new challenges and we take them on together. Mr. President, the floor is yours.

미국과 한국은 오랜 공동 희생의 역사를 가진 동맹국입니다. 그리고 개인적으로, 저는 한국전쟁 당시 한국에서 놀라운 용맹과 용맹을 보여주었던 90세 중반의 (퇴역)군인에게 의회 명예 훈장을 수여하는 큰 영광을 누렸기 때문에 오늘 저와 함께 해 주신 대통령께 감사를 드리고 싶습니다. 대통령은 친절하게도 그 곳에서 모든 시간을 보내고 개인적으로 우리의 명예를 축하해주셨습니다.

그리고 저는 또한 우리의 공동 희생과 협력의 역사가 세계의 중요한 지역에서 평화와 안정을 유지하는 데 필수적이라는 것을 강조하고 싶습니다. 문 대통령과 나, 우리 팀은 공동 어젠다를 발표하며 좋은 만남을 가졌습니다. 우리는 비공개 회의를 가졌고, 우리 직원들은 계속 이렇게 말했습니다. "(대통령님) 시간이 초과되었습니다. 시간이 초과되셨어요" 하지만 저는 우리의 만남이 너무 즐거워서 모든 것을 다시 하고 싶을 정도였습니다.

 

 

But I look forward to continuing our discussion today here and in growing the U.S.-ROK relationship further as we take on new challenges and we take them on together. Mr. President, the floor is yours.

한편 바이든 대통령은 이날 문재인 대통령을 언급하며, '총리(Prime Minister)'라고 호칭하는 실수를 보였다. 전날 이스라엘 총리에게 '대통령(President)'라고 부른 실수에 이어 또 한번 실수를 한 것이다. 지난 대선에서 바이든 '치매설'이 이슈된 가운데, 중요한 순간에 계속되는 말 실수가 이어져 이슈가 되고 있다.
