So, on crime, in 2016, you said it was President Obama’s fault that homicides were up in Chicago. So why was it the President’s fault then, but it’s not your fault now?

2016년에 시카고에서 발생한 살인사건들에 대해 오바마 대통령의 잘못이라고 말하셨는데요. 왜 그때 그 사건은 오바마 대통령의 잘못이고, 지금 일어나는 문제는 당신의 잘못이 아니라고 하시는건가요?

Chicago is a disaster. The mayor is saying, “Don’t come in.” The mayor is telling us not to come in. At some point, we can void that if we have to, but we may have to, at some..  because it’s out of control. I assume she’s saying that for political reasons. I think it’s negative political reasons.

지금 시카고는 정말 재앙 수준입니다. (그럼에도) 시카고 시장은 “여기에 오지말라”고 말하고 있습니다. 시장이 우리에게 ‘오지 말라’고 하고 있단 말입니다. 일정 수준을 넘어, 우리가 들어가야겠다고 느끼면, 우리는 무시하고 들어갈수도 있습니다. 통제 불가능 수준이 되면 말이에요. 제 생각엔 그 시장은 지금 정치적인 이유로 들어오지 말라고 하는 것 같습니다. 정치를 부정적으로 이용하고 있다고 생각합니다.

She’s a Democrat. I’m going to be nice. She’s a Democrat. She’s making a big mistake. People are dying in Chicago and other cities, and we can solve the problem. They have to ask us, but.. we can solve the problem.

그 시장은 민주당이거든요. 저는 두고볼 거에요. 그녀는 민주당이고, 지금 아주 큰 실수를 하고 있는겁니다. 시카고와 다른 도시들의 사람들이 죽어가고 있습니다. 그리고 우리 연방정부는 그 문제를 해결할 수 있습니다. 그들은 우리에게 도움을 요청해야 하지만.. 우리는 그 문제를 해결할 수 있단 말입니다.

Why was it President Obama’s fault in 2016?  You credited it as him being in office.

그러면 왜 2016년에는 그것이 오바마 대통령의 잘못 인거죠?

Because President Obama was invited in, and he did a poor job. President Obama could have gone into Chicago. He could have solved the problem, and he didn’t. In our case, they don’t want us in. We can solve the problem very easily. We’re equipped with the best equipment, the best people.

왜냐하면 오바마 대통령은 그 당시 초대받았었거든요. 그리고 그는 일을 제대로 처리하지 못했습니다. 오바마 대통령은 시카고로 가서 그 문제를 해결할 수도 있었습니다. 하지만 그는 그렇게 하지 않았습니다. 우리의 경우는 다릅니다. 시카고는 우리가 가서 돕는 걸 원치 않는단 말입니다. 우리 연방정부는 그 문제들을 정말 쉽게 해결할 수 있습니다. 우리는 최고의 장비들과 사람들로 준비되어 있습니다.

And you see what we’re doing. I mean, Portland was coming down, it was busting at the seams. And we went in and protected all the federal buildings. Those federal buildings are totally protected. But — and we had to do that. And Portland is a very different place than Chicago.

여러분도 우리가 얼마나 잘하고 있는지 보고 있지 않습니까? 포틀랜드는 상황이 나빠지고 있었죠. 터지기 직전이었습니다. 그리고 우리가 투입되었고, 그곳의 모든 연방건물들을 지켰냈습니다. 포틀랜드의 모든 정부 빌딩들은 완벽히 보호되었습니다. 우리는 그렇게 해야만 했습니다. 포틀랜드는 시카고와는 정말 달랐습니다.

But Chicago should be calling us and so should Philadelphia and Detroit and others — to go in and really help them. Because when you’re losing many people a weekend, many, many people, you see the same numbers as I do, when you’re losing these people, they should call us, and they should say, “Come on in.” And it’s incredible to me, but they’re not doing it.

하지만 시카고는 우리를 불렀어야 했습니다. 필라델피아, 디트로이트 그리고 다른 곳들도 마찬가지입니다. 우리가 그곳에 가서 정말 도와줄 수 있었습니다. 왜냐하면 주말마다 많은 사람들이 죽고 있잖아요. 정말 많은 사람들이.. 그렇게 사람들이 죽어나가면, 우리를 불렀어야죠. 이렇게 말했어야죠, “빨리 와주세요”. 그런데 놀랍게도 그들은 그렇게 하지 않았습니다.

At some point, they will.  At some point, we may have no other choice but to go in.

물론 그들이 감당 못하면, 그들이 도와달라고 하겠죠. 하지만 우리가 봤을때 그 선을 넘었다고 생각하면, 우린 (강제로라도)들어가 정리할 수도 있습니다.

네, 감사합니다. 오늘 당신을 ‘최초의 인종차별주의자 대통령’이라고 묘사한 조 바이든의 말에 대해 대응하시겠습니까?  

Well, you know, it’s interesting because we did criminal justice reform. We passed criminal justice reform, something that Obama and Biden were unable to do. We did opportunity cities. We did the greatest, if you look at what we’ve done with Opportunity Zones, nobody has ever even thought of a plan like that.

글쎄요. 재밌군요. 알다시피 우리는 ‘형사사법개혁’을 단행했습니다. ‘오바마-바이든’ 행정부에서 해내지 못한 그 ‘형사사법개혁’을 통과시켰단 말입니다. 우리는 도시들에 기회를 주고 있습니다. 우리가 해낸 ‘저소득층 세금감면정책(OZ)’을 보시죠. 정말 놀라운 일입니다. 아무도 그런 플랜을 생각조차 못했을 겁니다.  

Prior to the China plague coming in, floating in, coming into our country, and really doing terrible things all over the world, doing terrible things, we had the best African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, almost every group was the best for unemployment. The unemployment numbers were the best.

전 세계를 끔찍하게 만든 중국바이러스가 일어나, 우리나라에 들어오기 전까지, 우리 미국은 최고의 흑인, 히스패닉, 아시아인 등 거의 모든 그룹들의 실업률이 최저였습니다. 실업률 통계는 정말 최고였습니다.

You look at.. so you look at employment, you look at Opportunity Zones, and maybe most importantly of all, you look at criminal justice reform, you look at prison reform. I’ve done things that nobody else.. and I’ve said this, and I say it openly, and not a lot of people dispute it. I’ve done more for black Americans than anybody, with the possible exception of Abraham Lincoln. Nobody has even been close.

취업률을 한번 보시죠. ‘저소득 세금감면 정책’을 보시죠. 그리고 아마도 가장 중요한 ‘형사 사법 개혁’과 ‘교도소개혁’을 한번 보시란 말입니다. 저는 아무도 하지 못하던 일들을 해냈습니다. 저는 이런 것들을 공개적으로 말해왔고, 많은 사람들이 이 성과들에 이의를 제기하지 않습니다. 저는 정말 누구보다도 흑인들을 위해 많은 일을 한 대통령입니다, 애브라햄 링컨 대통령을 제외하고 말이죠. 누구도 근접할 수 없습니다.
